Local artists celebrated with free residency at flexible workspaces across Australia.
Leading flexible workspace experience provider Hub Australia has launched its inaugural Artist in Residence program, awarding four Australian artists with space to showcase and sell their art at their Clubhouses, flexible memberships, and a cash grant to dedicate to their art.
The program is aimed at showcasing the creativity, collaboration and imagination of local artists from across the country, inviting local artists to submit their portfolios for consideration. Rachel King (The Otway’s), Claire Bear (Brisbane), Freya Alexander (Melbourne) and Janine Hall (Sydney) – through their unique talent and individuality – are the first recipients of this residency, which aims to have a rotation of artists over the coming years.
The selected artists will showcase their artwork within Hub Australia’s Clubhouses, allowing them the opportunity to connect their art with new audiences nationwide. With displays in Clubhouses around Australia including Church Street, Collins Street, Hyde Park, Wynyard, and Anzac Square, these artists will transform each location into a vibrant space for creative expression and collaboration.
Chief Revenue & Experience Officer at Hub Australia Rebekah Murphy says the Artist in Residence program is part of Hub’s aim to create spaces that offer more than just a desk or an office, they are a space that creates energy and engagement, with an experience that makes you want to stay.
“We’re excited to support local artists with this program. It’s a big part of Hub’s goal to create spaces that really blend work and life. A great workspace experience should do both,” said Murphy.
“Working with local artists is one way we stay connected to – and celebrate – the communities we’re part of. This artist residency brings a sense of place to our workspaces – something that you can’t get at home. It’s just one of the little ways we make the commute worth it.”
Of the 55+ entrants, these artists were standouts in that their artwork was seen to bring a sense of expression and calm to Hub Clubhouses.
Abstract partners, Rachel and Claire, will bring a sense of vibrancy to the space while Freya and Janine’s works draw on landscapes. The incorporation of light, nature, cityscapes and even Australian landscapes, through mediums like acrylics and oils, will help to create a visually balanced and harmonious workspace.
“Why can’t offices be beautiful, inspiring spaces where we actually want to be and work? It’s amazing that Hub Australia has created such environments while also supporting artists” says Rachel King, artist in residence.
Freya, a third-generation artist, has recently returned from an inspiring year in Spain, where she immersed herself in her craft through a number of solo shows. Now, this work is being featured in Hub Australia locations across the country – reaching a completely new audience.
“Opportunities like this are unique and hard to come by – so, I feel incredibly lucky to have been selected along other talented artists” says Freya.
