Opening in June, Hub Parliament Station is bringing premium coworking to new heights with a 3 story coworking space to be located in ICI House, 1 Nicholson Street.
ICI House sits on the corner of Nicholson and Lonsdale Streets, 19 storeys and 83m tall. The building’s height and location at the top end of the CBD have made it a landmark of Melbourne, overlooking the CBD with breathtaking 360-degree views.
Reaching new heights
Completed in 1958, ICI House (now known as the Orica Building) was once Australia’s tallest office tower. In the years since, much of the CBD has been filled with taller skyscrapers, but none have obstructed the view from the top of ICI House.
At the top of the building, you can look out across the skyline of the city, or out to the North or East of the CBD, and take in the stunning sights and sunsets.

A new style of building
ICI House paved the way for the new style of international architecture, becoming the first example in the whole country of the potential height of modern skyscrapers (at the time).
The building was designed by Bates Smart McCutcheon, and modelled on the growing trend of corporate designs pioneered in the USA, with all-glass high-rises incredibly uncommon in Australia until this point. It remains a symbol of a transition point in Melbourne’s history, a landmark representing Melbourne’s shift into the skyscraper-filled city it’s become today.
Hub Parliament Station is being designed by the same company, Bates Smart, in a nod to the building’s history.

Heritage and style
Hub Australia has gained a reputation for transforming some of Australia’s heritage and iconic buildings into thriving coworking spaces, and Hub Parliament Station will be no different. ICI House was the first post-war office building to be added to the Victorian Heritage Register, cementing its importance in Victoria’s architectural history.
